Lot 1860
1851-O $1 Gold Liberty. PCGS graded MS-63. This is lovely example of the date. First off, the fields are prooflike, and the dies were carefully prepared. Toned with antique copper hues. At a glance, one would assume this is a very early strike, but upon examination one sees a die crack from the upper rim down to nearly the curl on Liberty's forehead below her crown. Another horizontal crack is seen from the rim to above her eye and to the rim through the points of a star opposite. Sharply struck throughout, and one wonders if this may have been a branch mint proof, although none are reported. PCGS has graded 23 this high, and 19 higher, all MS-64.
Estimated Value $1,800 - 2,200.

Lot 1866
1854 $1 Gold Indian. Accugrade graded MS-63 our grade MS-60+. The surfaces were probably lightly cleaned long ago, and the coin has an even gold tone throughout with minor hairlines. One tiny tick in the left obverse field, and the strike is decent for this issue. Struck from lightly clashed dies, as are most.
Estimated Value $2,500 - 3,000.

Lot 1867
1854 $1 Gold Indian. PCGS graded MS-62. A trifle softly struck up on Liberty's hair yet the surfaces are nice and frosty throughout. Always in demand for inclusion in a 12 piece gold type set.

Lot 1868
1854 $1 Gold Indian. NGC graded MS-61. Struck from clashed dies as are most of this scarce issue. Apparently the mints had a hard time feeding in these tiny planchets, and most one dollar gold pieces show clash marks, sometimes multiple sets as seen here, where the dies came together without a planchet between them. Bright luster and rich gold in color, with the usual handling ticks from transport during its initial years after coining. Scarce and always in demand, the Type 2 gold piece has a low mintage and few were saved in mint state grades, keeping the pricing pressure high on this issue.
Estimated Value $2,500 - 3,000.

1864 $1 Gold Indian. PCGS graded MS-68. One of the finest graded of the date, and entire series, for that matter! The surfaces are pristine, and show virtually no signs of contact with other coins. Rich with blazing luster, and the surfaces are a pleasing yellow gold color. Fully struck for this date, with no signs of weakness on either side. Struck from a lightly clashed obverse die, with outlines from the wreath seen in the fields. PCGS has graded 3 this high, with a single coin graded higher from the original mintage of just 5,900 pieces.
